From color-changing concoctions to homemade bath bombs, you'll be amazed at how simple ingredients combine to create extraordinary elixirs. Students will play a PE class favorite! MATBALL-A game similar to kickball, but with more cardio-respiratory endurance required. There are no foul balls. Stealing bases are allowed and to score, you need to run around the bases TWICE! Grab your sneakers and a friend and get ready for some non-stop fun!

This course gives students the skills they need to create their own 3D-printed models using design thinking! The basics of 3D design & printing are explored by modeling a house from the ground up – anything from a modern home to a lunar dwelling – applying math, science, art, and technology skills along the way. They’ll have fun building on their skills week-after-week by creating products, toys, and models that challenge them to think outside of the box. We give opportunities in this course for students to design anything that they can dream up, from their favorite video games characters, to a functional tablet stand, the sky is the limit. This course is a great introduction into the world of 3D printing from design to fabrication and can be taken multiple times with a mix of new projects and revised builds each semester.

**Registration fee covers one take-home 3D print for every two classes.

Graphic novels are taking the world by storm—why not create your own? In this class, you’ll dive into the art of visual storytelling and learn how to craft your own "sequential art." You’ll plan your original story, develop characters, and map out your plot, using panels and transitions to guide readers through the narrative. You'll also explore how to enhance your story with speech bubbles, sound effects, and caption boxes. Calling all Mathletes!  Join other math aficionados and work together to compete in national math problem solving contests. Meet weekly for practice tests and review in preparation for the 5, once monthly, national tests. Each week you are introduced to important mathematical concepts and will learn major strategies and develop mathematical flexibility in problem solving in a peer to peer supported learning environment. As an intrepid explorer, you will visit different countries of the world on Google Earth! Discover how people live in those countries, and learn about their traditions and languages. Each week you will complete an activity and go home being able to speak a few words from that country! 

Go on a Safari adventure with exotic animals that you can hold, pet and learn about.  Each week, meet one or two new animals, explore the foods they eat and preferred habitat.  You will create an animalistic craft to take home and write in your journal to 'track' your adventures. If you have never played the game of chess or have only played a few times this class is for you! Learn the fundamentals of chess, including the basic moves of pieces, their value, interactions and how to win. All players will learn about the etiquette and strategy of a game that is truly a great lifetime activity for young and old alike.

This class combines the best of both worlds. We will alternate between our sweet and savory recipes creating the perfect balance. As we move into Spring we will take advantage of the many fruits and veggies with a garden focaccia bread, ultra orange cake, Texas caviar and a Mother’s Day parfait - and “pop up” recipes too. Each week students will prepare a recipe to be taken home, sometimes with instructions to be cooked or finished at home.

Trained staff members from Hands on Pottery will teach students about painting with glazes on kiln dried pottery pieces. Each week, students will learn new art techniques and create their very own unique items. We’ll touch on using tape, pointillism, color layering, stencils, and other fun, new techniques throughout the course. Fired pieces will be returned to school each week.

In this two hour workshop, experience what a Chess Tournament can be like while playing for fun with classmates. Instructors will support players with strategies and tactics to help improve their game while reinforcing etiquette, sportsmanship and patience. All players should have a basic knowledge of the the game and ability to play a game independently.

This time, we’ll be traveling to Belgium (where we’ll create a delicious chocolate recipe), Alaska (with a 1954-style salad featuring ranch dressing), and South Africa (to make oat crunchies). Since it’s springtime, we’ll head to Japan to bake cherry blossom cookies, and then celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexico. Sweet tooth? We’ll be making Scottish shortbread cookies and heading to Sweden to prepare Swedish cinnamon rolls. And that’s just the beginning—many more exciting stops await!

Build confidence and skills to take on the challenges of the real world!

Calling all young detectives! In Math Mystery, students will embark on thrilling adventures where math is the key to solving weekly mysteries. Students will use basic math skills—like counting, addition, subtraction, patterns, and shapes—to crack codes, unlock secrets, and uncover hidden clues. Whether they’re solving a puzzle to find a missing treasure or using numbers to break a secret code, kids will have a blast using math to unlock the mysteries around them!

Embark on a global adventure and dive into the fascinating world of international trade, economics, and the forces that shape our changing landscapes. After learning about global patterns and phenomena, students apply what they have learned as they play games like Catan, Risk, and Stratego. From the history of a disappearing sea to modern-day finance and trade routes, this class covers all the complex forces that shape our world!

Rev up your imagination for this LEGO: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles class! In this hands-on workshop, kids will use their creativity to design and build custom vehicles from scratch, using only LEGO bricks (no pre-made sets here!). From cars and trucks to boats and planes, students will learn to think like engineers as they explore the science behind how vehicles move, balance, and function. They'll experiment with different building techniques and unleash their inner inventor as they design rad Lego vehicles!

Take a stroll down the Pollinator Pathway and learn the importance of pollinators like bees and butterflies. This class was offered last spring and was a huge success. Some of the favorite lessons were planting pollinator-friendly flowers, making a hummingbird feeder, and building a water station for visiting beneficial bugs! These select projects are included again, while other brand new lessons have been added. Join the fun and  do your part to create a thriving environment for the beloved tiny heroes of the gardens!

Art: Inspired by the Greats takes students on a creative journey through the world’s most famous museums. Each week, students will explore the works of renowned artists — from Van Gogh to Picasso — discovering their unique techniques, bold use of color, and approach to composition. Inspired by these masters, students will create their own original masterpieces, blending learning with hands-on creativity. This class gives students the chance to see the art world in a whole new way while developing their own artistic style.

Learn the official Wiffle ball rules and fine-tune your pitching skills as you master all the signature Wiffle ball pitches. Each session, you’ll get to step up to the plate and face off against your classmates in a full game. Grab your bat, warm up that arm, and get ready to swing for the fences—Wiffle ball style!

Get ready to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge your way to victory in Dodgeball Mania! This high-energy class is all about fun, fitness, and teamwork. Learn the rules, strategies, and techniques that make dodgeball an exciting sport, all while staying active and having a blast. Each session is filled with friendly competition, where you’ll get plenty of chances to play and improve your skills. Are you ready to be the last player standing?

Calling all 5th graders to get a head start for your graduation to Middle School! All your questions will be answered in this small group setting to ask and discuss what to expect next year, including everything from navigating your way around the building, managing your class schedule, locks, lockers, study skills and more.

Spend the afternoon making prints using different techniques (sponge painting, watercolors, liquid watercolors, salt painting, scratch painting, crayon resist rubbing, plexiglass painting, plastic wrap painting, splatter painting, etc.) and then collage a final project!

Explore the wonders of motion in nature through hands-on projects that bring animals to life! In this engineering course, students will learn about different types of motion—spinning, rolling, zigzagging, and more—by building motorized creatures that mimic the movements of real animals. Each lesson combines creativity, engineering, and biology, allowing students to craft and decorate their own motor-powered animals while learning about the natural world. Each week, engineers and animal lovers alike will complete a new build. From the buzzing flight of bees to the slithering motion of snakes, students will discover how animals move, feed, and survive in nature.

This club is chock full of fun and creative activities with a special twist.  We will be incorporating items that we can recycle and turn into something completely new and artistic.  Activities will include painting, drawing, and design projects.  Bring your enthusiasm and get ready for some fun.

We have combined two of our favorites: Legos and games! Students will use LEGO® bricks to design and construct their own interactive tabletop games, such as mini shuffleboard, ski ball, marble mazes, and more. Each week features a new build-and-play project, with plenty of time for students to test, improve, and show off their custom creations. Perfect for budding engineers, game lovers, and LEGO® enthusiasts!

Kids will explore scientific wonders like bioluminescence and chemical reactions while creating high-quality, eye-catching projects that sparkle and glow. Each week, young makers craft dazzling masterpieces using metallics, neons, and glitter, all inspired by real-world science and fueled by imagination. From shimmering space scenes to glittery creatures, this class encourages artistic expression, curiosity, and joyful experimentation. Get ready to move, explore, and create in Art in Action! This hands-on class invites young artists to discover the joy of making art through movement, play, and imagination. From dancing with crayons to racing marbles through paint, students will explore a wide variety of fun, process-based activities. Each week introduces a new way to express creativity—like body tracing, splatter painting, or scratch art—while encouraging problem-solving, experimentation, and self-expression. We’ll finish with a special gallery walk to celebrate everyone’s unique creations!

Discover the joy of sewing through fun, hands-on projects made just for little learners. Using child-safe plastic needles, felt, buttons, and yarn, kindergarteners will build fine motor skills, patience, and confidence as they learn to stitch, stuff, and decorate simple creations like pillows, puppets, and animal friends. Projects will be taken home after completion and will positively be “sew cute, too!”

One, Two, Three… ACTION! In this creative and energetic class, students will dive into the magical world of theater by creating their very own mini-plays—from writing scripts to designing sets and making props. Through theater games and improv activities, kids will build confidence, collaboration skills, and stage presence. The class will include scriptwriting, character creation, acting techniques, prop-making, set design, theater games, and improvisation!

Each session is filled with creepy clues, mysterious math problems, and hidden keys that unlock the next stage of the adventure. From eerie equations to ghostly geometry, every correct answer brings them closer to escaping the haunted room! This class makes math exciting, interactive, and just the right amount of spooky!

Create and bring simple bots to life using small circuits and everyday materials. Through guided projects and open-ended challenges, young makers will discover how to turn ordinary objects into extraordinary machines, including a bristle brush bot, hex bug, a dancing robot, and more. No prior experience needed—just imagination, curiosity, and a willingness to tinker!

A calming class that blends mindfulness practices with gentle yoga. Students will explore breathing, movement, and relaxation techniques to build focus, self-awareness, and emotional regulation in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Do you love fashionable clothes? If so, this class is for you! We will explore fashion through drawing, watercolor, and collage using magazines, fun fabrics, and sparkly embellishments. Get ready to design your own fashion items for various occasions! (Note: This class will not involve sewing.)

Let your imagination take the lead! In this whimsical art class, students will learn to draw characters and objects from beloved stories—bringing favorite fairy tales and adventures to life, one doodle at a time. Perfect for young artists who love books, creativity, and a touch of magic!

Get ready to buzz with excitement! In this fun and focused spelling bee class, students will build strong spelling skills, boost their vocabularies, and gain confidence on stage. Each week, we’ll explore new word lists, play interactive spelling games, and practice strategies for remembering tricky words. The class will end with a Mini Spelling Bee to showcase what students have learned—complete with applause, certificates, and lots of cheering!

Kickstart your game! In this action-packed class, players will build confidence, control, and coordination through fun, focused soccer drills. From passing and dribbling to teamwork and movement, it’s the perfect way to sharpen skills and stay active—no matter your experience level!

“Pirates+Zombies is a rollicking 45 minute musical with 6 original songs that brings together characters from two of Roger and John’s most popular shows! The Pirate captain books a cruise for his mates on a themed “costume cruise”, it turns out to be hosted by real Zombies! After fun laughter and an ultimate “Walk the Plank” it turns out they each learn “No One is a Monster” once you get to know them. Easy to stage and costume, fun for all ages from upper elementary through small high school.

You’ll craft one-of-a-kind pieces like necklaces, bracelets, and rings while learning fun techniques—from braiding patterns to using crimp beads and clasps. Each creation is as unique as you are, and you’ll leave with stunning accessories that show off your personal flair. What dazzling designs will you dream up?

In this hands-on STEAM class, students will explore the fundamentals of mechanical engineering through creative challenges using Sphero Blueprint robotics kits. From building simple machines to designing moving structures, students will work collaboratively to plan, build, test, and improve their creations. Along the way, they’ll develop engineering skills, critical thinking, and teamwork in a fun and dynamic environment.

Get ready to run, pass, and score! In this fun introduction to lacrosse, learn skills like cradling, passing, shooting, and teamwork.

A one-hour extension after your child’s enrichment class, designed to provide a safe, fun, and structured environment. Each session includes time for a nut-free snack (from home), light homework support or story time, group games, crafts, and indoor/outdoor play (as space and weather allow).

Eligibility: Open to students enrolled in a same-day enrichment class. Drop-ins are allowed based on availability.

Get ready to move! In this high-energy class, students will learn fun hip hop and jazz dance routines while building confidence, coordination, and rhythm. Families are invited to a special performance during the last 30 minutes of the final class!

Join us in playing WEEKLY FIELD DAY GAMES!! Experience the end of the year thrill and longing for Fit-tastic games! Work in teams, duos and solo play to accomplish your game task! These games consist of changing obstacle courses, memory games, varying relay games, multi- sport play, card games, an array of ball games, parachute games, tag based games and much more!! Problem solving and skill learning structured games are scattered throughout every game and mini game we play!

Join us to learn tennis basics through fun drills and games! Students will build skills in serving, volleying, and teamwork while staying active on the court. All levels are welcome, and racquets will be provided.

In this program, players will be introduced to the art of improv comedy through short form games and exercises that are designed to make you think on your feet, collaborate with others and follow the fun, all while practicing the fundamentals of improvisation! No prior improv, acting or theater experience necessary. Improv is for everyone! Why is improv good for kids? Aside from being a team based activity that is rooted in the fundamental human skills of active listening, collaboration, using your imagination and having fun, improv has been proven to increase divergent thinking and creativity in children!

Join Mad Science this session and discover why science is the real star on the big screen. You’ll create cool sound effects and build your own robot hand to take home in a class focusing on technology. Harness the sun’s heat and ramp up a power generation station. Get linked into a network and work with radio signals. Conduct hands-on experiments that will provide the opportunity to explore the force of gravity and even defy gravity! Some of the classes in this session include: Movie Effects, Sonic Sounds, The Science of Toys, Radical Robots, and Great Gravity.

This Fall, we will travel to new places. Some of the traditional recipes we will prepare are from Brazil, Hungary, Korea, Scotland, Costa Rica, Australia, and, of course, the USA. Each child will prepare their own recipe! They will learn the origin of the recipe and tidbits of information about each destination. This class is a hands-on educational and culinary experience

Let's enjoy the best of both worlds. We will alternate between the two and prepare apple crisp, zucchini cheesy tots, chocolate banana split cake, and sweet potato bread, just to name a few. 

Our class offers the opportunity for each kid to make their own recipe. Sharing this experience with loved ones is making a memory!

Kick off the year with Mrs. King and some Perler Bead fun! Each week, students will create a colorful take-home craft, like pins, keychains, magnets, and more. It’s a playful way to strengthen fine motor skills while letting creativity shine!

Roll up your sleeves and get ready to squish, swirl, and stamp your way into the magical world of printmaking! In this playful, hands-on class, young artists will explore a delightful variety of printmaking techniques — from the swirling elegance of Suminagashi (floating ink), to the fishy fun of gyotaku (fish prints!), to gel plate monoprints, stamping, and more.
Each session, we’ll dive into a new inky experiment using all kinds of inks/paints, papers, textures, and tools. Students will: create mesmerizing marbled papers, print with rubber fish (yes, really!)

Science Olympiads practice hands-on science activities, so they can compete in the Science Olympiad competition! These competitions start in middle school!! But we can start practicing now, so you can be a winning Science Olympiad in the 6th grade!
We will learn science by doing science! Hands-on, inquiry-based activities that challengeYou will build your understanding of basic scientific concepts, like measurement, force, engineering design, and energy. Each session we will focus on a new event! Observe creepy crawly bugs, make casts of animal tracks & study the feeding habits of owls as we dissect their lunch’s remains.  Some of the weekly topics in this session are: Bugs, Earthworks, Walloping Weather, Mission Nutrition, All about Animals, Life in the Sea, The Birds & the Beasts, Earth Awareness, Nature and The Science of Sport!

Your little bakers will learn to decorate in a creative way a variety of delicious treats. We will work with chocolate, fresh fruit, royal icing, buttercream & fondant in order to decorate cake pops, cookies, cupcakes, mini cakes, dip treats in chocolate and make fun beverages too.

Stations / Varied Fundamentals 

1. Hitting Station: Focus on Hand-Eye & Power

This station teaches the proper mechanics of hitting, but uses techniques that remove the fear of a live pitch or the pressure of making contact.

• Tee-Ball Challenge (Integrity: The Swing):

  • Set up multiple hitting tees at different heights.

  • Instead of just hitting into a net, make it a precision target challenge. Use hula hoops on the ground or buckets placed 10-20 feet away.

  • The Quirky Twist: Use wiffle balls, soft sponge balls, and large plastic bats to reduce intimidation. Time their swing speed using a simple radar gun (if available) or a stopwatch for bragging rights on "power," rewarding effort over accuracy.

• Throw-to-Hit (Integrity: Hand-Eye Coordination):

  • A coach or parent gently tosses a ball (underhand, very slow) from 10 feet away.

  • The goal is simply to make contact and try to hit it over a fence or into a designated "home run" zone. No runners, no fielders—just the pure joy of connecting with the ball.

2. Fielding Station: Focus on Agility & Soft Hands

This station teaches the proper mechanics of catching and throwing, emphasizing quick movement and safe technique.

• Crazy Catch Corner (Integrity: Soft Hands):

  • Coaches use tennis balls, bean bags, and soft playground balls (all easy to catch) and throw them in a soft arc.

  • The twist: Kids are given oversized gloves, small gloves, or even no gloves for a few rounds. This removes the pressure of the specific baseball mitt and emphasizes getting their body behind the catch.

  • The Quirky Twist: Play "Hot Potato" catch—a quick-fire drill where they catch and immediately toss it back to a coach, focusing on fast exchange and soft hands.

• The Ground Ball Gauntlet (Integrity: Fielding Position):

  • Use light-up or colored plastic cones to create a short, zig-zag path.

  • A coach rolls ground balls through the path. Kids have to get into the "alligator mouth" fielding position (glove on the ground, bare hand ready) and block/trap the ball like a goalie, rather than scoop it cleanly. This ensures they learn the low fielding stance without the pressure of having to make a perfect throw after.

3. Baserunning Station: Focus on Agility & Speed

This is the most natural part of baseball to gamify, focusing on explosive movement and safe sliding.

• The Base-Stealing Dash (Integrity: Explosive Start):

  • Set up a simple sprint between two bases.

  • The twist: Kids have to start from different positions (laying on their belly, sitting down, facing backward) and explode toward the base on the coach's whistle. This is great for all ages and focuses on athletic movement, not baseball knowledge.

• Slip-N-Slide Base (Integrity: Sliding):

  • Note: Ensure proper safety mats or tarps / low-friction mat, teach the basics of the pop-up slide or the feet-first slide.

  • Alternative for Safety: "Rounding the Base" drills, teaching them the correct angle and step to transition from a full sprint to a turn without slowing down.

Get ready to hit the basketball court! Learn the fundamentals of basketball and perfect your dribbling, shooting, and defensive skills. Each session includes confidence-boosting drills, fast-paced games, and friendly scrimmages. By the end of the class, you'll be more comfortable with the game and better understand strategy, all while having a ton of fun. Lace-up your sneakers and get ready for some hoops!

Join this co-ed team sport for a fun, non-contact, all-American experience! Practice your spiral, sprint, and fakes like a pro, all while enjoying the thrill of the game. It’s sure to be a blast, so don’t forget to recruit your friends—the more, the merrier in flag football!

Midland School will be hosting a co-ed before school basketball league. T Each team will play 5 games to determine seeding for a single elimination tournament.  Students only report to the gym when their team has a game.  A schedule will be emailed home. This program will provide an opportunity for your child to practice the skills of basketball and work as a team in an environment that may be more competitive than Physical Education and less competitive than an out of–school league.

Doors will open at 8 A.M. with games beginning at 8:15. Students will play against other teams in their grade.

WordMasters is a fun and challenging vocabulary program that helps students build strong verbal reasoning skills. Participants learn advanced words, explore how they relate to one another, and practice completing creative analogies. This class encourages students to think deeply, make connections, and strengthen their overall language skills while preparing for the national Word Masters Challenge.

Students who have been with iCAMP all year, or who are just beginning their engineering journeys, will delight in this challenging course! Students will refine previous designs to push their builds to the next level. Rockets, satellites, cars, and trains are just the beginning - using iterative design and engineering skills, students will take on exciting new challenges and be inspired to take their builds to the next level. Prepare for real babysitting jobs in this hands-on workshop! Students learn what it means to be an excellent babysitter through lessons on responsibility, safety, decision-making, and positive behavior guidance. Participants also explore how to care for children and infants from mealtime to bedtime, including basic childcare routines. Participants also explore how to start their own babysitting business and communicate effectively with families.

Topics include:
• Being the Best Babysitter — expectations, using a simple decision-making model & the business of babysitting.
• Positive Play & Behavior — promoting good behavior, guiding younger kids & managing stress

Experience the joy of music through hands-on acoustic guitar instruction. Designed especially for beginners, students will learn 3–4 basic guitar chords and use them to play a simple, age-appropriate song by the end of the program. Explore music in a supportive, low-pressure environment without needing prior experience. Through guided instruction, repetition, and play, students will develop foundational skills such as hand coordination, rhythm, listening, and musical confidence.

Classes emphasize:

Daniel Flynn  is a paraprofessional at NSS and an experienced educator and musician with extensive experience working with children in school and afterschool settings. He has been playing acoustic guitar (both steel-string and nylon-string) as well as electric guitar since the age of 11, and currently plays guitar in accompaniment with the school choir.

In this exciting course, young scientists will delve into the fascinating properties of slime, discovering its stretchiness, gooey texture, and mesmerizing colors. Through hands-on experiments and playful activities, students will uncover the science behind slime, learning about polymers and the unique combination of ingredients that create this captivating substance. Get ready for a messy and memorable journey as we dive into the slime-filled wonders of chemistry and sensory exploration!

 

In this hands-on LEGO Creations class, students in grades K-3 will dive into a world of imagination and engineering as they transform simple bricks into incredible "Boss-level" projects. Our young builders will kick off their creative journey by constructing a functional Tick-Tock Clock and a classic Big Red Barn, exploring how gears and architecture bring ideas to life. The challenge ramps up as they design a gravity-defying Marble Maze, using logic and physics to build the ultimate obstacle course. We’ll also mix in plenty of fun with a LEGO Pizza Party where students "cook" up brick-based feasts, and a Rainbow Farm project that lets them experiment with vibrant colors and landscape design. Calling all friends who love crafting, collecting, and making new buddies! At Squish-mallow Friends Club, each session is a burst of creativity and fun as students design and create their very own colorful, friendly paper Squish-mallows. 

As the club continues, kids will build an adorable collection of squishy paper pals—perfect for sharing, trading, and showing off with friends!  Along the way, students will practice important social and emotional skills, like taking turns, communicating kindly, and making positive connections with their peers.

Students create a cozy sleeping bag set designed to fit an 18-inch doll or a stuffed animal. Using soft fleece and felt, students sew a fleece sleeping bag finished with a ribbon tie, a plush fleece pillow featuring a pocket and a convenient carrying strap or handle, and a felt chocolate chip cookie! In addition to enjoying important skills, students gain patience, problem-solving skills, and pride in creating a functional, comforting set they’ll love to use again and again.

The Great BIG mini World!

Get ready to create everything mini in this club! Miniature Sculpey food, and bottle cap magnets... Mini Canvases and even design a mini room complete with mini clay furniture! We will also explore mini-sculptures and lots of other really big (but mini) ideas!

The Paintbrush Life is a paint party every week!  Students will explore acrylic painting through multiple canvas painting, pour painting and mixed media projects.  A variety of acrylic mediums will be introduced to create dimension effects and surfaces.  Students will learn to transfer their drawings to canvas with graphite paper to create original works of art or choose from sample painting ideas! Classes will include color mixing, shading, and palette knife techniques.  Weekly sharing and feedback will be given as well as looking at famous works of art.  Watercolor techniques will also be introduced!

In this "paint a story" class, an instructor will read a book and students will paint a pottery project based on the topic of the book! One new project per student each week, with beautiful fired pieces returned in 1-2 weeks. Class hosted by MADE: my art + design experience.
