All Levels Chess
Checkmate made fun! Learn and play chess in a fun, supportive environment where strategy meets creativity. Through engaging lessons, puzzles, and friendly games, students build confidence, focus, and problem-solving skills. We’ll explore everything from piece movement and tactics to smart strategies and good sportsmanship. All levels are welcome — from curious beginners to experienced players ready for their next challenge.
Chemistry: Practical Potions
Mix up some magical potions while exploring the chemistry behind them! From color-changing concoctions to homemade bath bombs, you'll be amazed at how simple ingredients combine to create extraordinary elixirs. You’ll take home purposeful potions like an all-natural bug repellent and a sweet sugar scrub, along with fun mixtures that are sure to leave you bubbling with excitement for more!
Matball
Students will play a PE class favorite! MATBALL-A game similar to kickball, but with more cardio-respiratory endurance required. There are no foul balls. Stealing bases are allowed and to score, you need to run around the bases TWICE! Grab your sneakers and a friend and get ready for some non-stop fun!
Technology & 3D Printing
This course gives students the skills they need to create their own 3D-printed models using design thinking! The basics of 3D design & printing are explored by modeling a house from the ground up – anything from a modern home to a lunar dwelling – applying math, science, art, and technology skills along the way. They’ll have fun building on their skills week-after-week by creating products, toys, and models that challenge them to think outside of the box. We give opportunities in this course for students to design anything that they can dream up, from their favorite video games characters, to a functional tablet stand, the sky is the limit. This course is a great introduction into the world of 3D printing from design to fabrication and can be taken multiple times with a mix of new projects and revised builds each semester.
**Registration fee covers one take-home 3D print for every two classes.
Beginner Scratch Coding
Does your child enjoy computer games? Do they hope to create their own digital characters and play spaces? Then check out the “Beginners Scratch Coding Course”! The Scratch platform was created by students at MIT to introduce the power of coding to children, reflect on how many of the tools we use today were created with code, and show how much creative fun it can be! Students will learn what coding is about, how to design digital games and fun scenarios, and share creations with others as a computer programing team.
Mixed Martial Arts
Begin your martial arts journey! In this class, you will experience training that improves your physical conditioning and affords you practical self-defense skills. Practice learning the way of the noble hero and the meaning of responsible action will be a focus. With this traditional martial arts training, the goal is to develop the whole person - body, mind, and character. Studying martial arts increases one's confidence, focus, self-discipline, self-control, and respect for self and others.
Debate Club
Everything is up for debate! Explore all kinds of topics and use your logical thinking skills to research and design arguments for, or against, an issue. Debate Club will teach you how to speak with confidence in public and use opinions to express your persuasive skills with peers. Come and exchange some ideas!

Get ready for a triple-threat of fun and action in Kick, Wiffle, and Capture! In this high-energy class, we’ll dive into versions of three classic games—kickball, wiffle ball, and capture the flag. Whether you're sprinting around the bases in kickball, hitting home runs in wiffle ball, or strategizing to capture the flag, every session is packed with excitement and teamwork. Get ready to move your body, have fun, and make memories!
Writing Graphic Novels
Graphic novels are taking the world by storm—why not create your own? In this class, you’ll dive into the art of visual storytelling and learn how to craft your own "sequential art." You’ll plan your original story, develop characters, and map out your plot, using panels and transitions to guide readers through the narrative. You'll also explore how to enhance your story with speech bubbles, sound effects, and caption boxes. Plus, you'll get hands-on experience with lettering, inking, and coloring to bring your graphic novel to life!
Math Olympiad
Calling all Mathletes! Join other math aficionados and work together to compete in national math problem solving contests. Meet weekly for practice tests and review in preparation for the 5, once monthly, national tests. Each week you are introduced to important mathematical concepts and will learn major strategies and develop mathematical flexibility in problem solving in a peer to peer supported learning environment. Around the World
As an intrepid explorer, you will visit different countries of the world on Google Earth! Discover how people live in those countries, and learn about their traditions and languages. Each week you will complete an activity and go home being able to speak a few words from that country!
Critter Caravan
Go on a Safari adventure with exotic animals that you can hold, pet and learn about. Each week, meet one or two new animals, explore the foods they eat and preferred habitat. You will create an animalistic craft to take home and write in your journal to 'track' your adventures. This hands on class will open your eyes to how other creatures make thier way in the world. If you have never played the game of chess or have only played a few times this class is for you! Learn the fundamentals of chess, including the basic moves of pieces, their value, interactions and how to win. A Bit of Savory and a Bit of Sweets
This class combines the best of both worlds. We will alternate between our sweet and savory recipes creating the perfect balance. As we move into Spring we will take advantage of the many fruits and veggies with a garden focaccia bread, ultra orange cake, Texas caviar and a Mother’s Day parfait - and “pop up” recipes too. Each week students will prepare a recipe to be taken home, sometimes with instructions to be cooked or finished at home.

Survivor Fox Meadow
Students will have a blast creating new and innovative games and activities with Coach SW. Based on the very popular Survivor Fox Meadow Unit in PE at Fox Meadow, students will use all of the equipment in the gym to invent new activities and movement experiences that are fun, unique and inclusive for everyone!

Hands on Pottery
Trained staff members from Hands on Pottery will teach students about painting with glazes on kiln dried pottery pieces. Each week, students will learn new art techniques and create their very own unique items. We’ll touch on using tape, pointillism, color layering, stencils, and other fun, new techniques throughout the course. Fired pieces will be returned to school each week.

Cooking Around the World II
Did you travel with us this fall? If so, hop back on board as we continue our culinary adventure! For those who missed the journey, grab your aprons and join us for a brand-new session.
This time, we’ll be traveling to Belgium (where we’ll create a delicious chocolate recipe), Alaska (with a 1954-style salad featuring ranch dressing), and South Africa (to make oat crunchies). Since it’s springtime, we’ll head to Japan to bake cherry blossom cookies, and then celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexico. Sweet tooth? We’ll be making Scottish shortbread cookies and heading to Sweden to prepare Swedish cinnamon rolls. And that’s just the beginning—many more exciting stops await!

Take a stroll down the Pollinator Pathway and learn the importance of pollinators like bees and butterflies. This class was offered last spring and was a huge success. Some of the favorite lessons were planting pollinator-friendly flowers, making a hummingbird feeder, and building a water station for visiting beneficial bugs! Process Art
Spend the afternoon making prints using different techniques (sponge painting, watercolors, liquid watercolors, salt painting, scratch painting, crayon resist rubbing, plexiglass painting, plastic wrap painting, splatter painting, etc.) and then collage a final project!
TGA Golf
TGA makes it convenient and fun for your child to learn and play golf right at your school. Our curriculums were specially designed by industry-leading golf professionals and education specialists to ensure that the lesson plans are age-appropriate as well as easy to understand and retain. Musical Theater: Pirates and Zombies
“Pirates+Zombies is a rollicking 45 minute musical with 6 original songs that brings together characters from two of Roger and John’s most popular shows! The Pirate captain books a cruise for his mates on a themed “costume cruise”, it turns out to be hosted by real Zombies! After fun laughter and an ultimate “Walk the Plank” it turns out they each learn “No One is a Monster” once you get to know them. Easy to stage and costume, fun for all ages from upper elementary through small high school.

Stay & Play: Extended Program

Join Mad Science this session and discover why science is the real star on the big screen. This Fall, we will travel to new places. Some of the traditional recipes we will prepare are from Brazil, Hungary, Korea, Scotland, Costa Rica, Australia, and, of course, the USA. Each child will prepare their own recipe! They will learn the origin of the recipe and tidbits of information about each destination. This class is a hands-on educational and culinary experience
Fall Savory & Sweets Cooking Class
Let's enjoy the best of both worlds. We will alternate between the two and prepare apple crisp, zucchini cheesy tots, chocolate banana split cake, and sweet potato bread, just to name a few.

Come join us for some theater fun! This workshop teaches various acting and improv techniques while focusing on individual growth and increased confidence in front of others. Any level is welcome! Children will be learning theater skills using excerpts/scenes from beloved theater classics. This workshop is taught by the director of the spring production of Aristocats - Lori Mortensen . There will be a showcase for parents on the last day!
Magical Marks & Messy Masterpieces
Roll up your sleeves and get ready to squish, swirl, and stamp your way into the magical world of printmaking! In this playful, hands-on class, young artists will explore a delightful variety of printmaking techniques — from the swirling elegance of Suminagashi (floating ink), to the fishy fun of gyotaku (fish prints!), to gel plate monoprints, stamping, and more.

Adventures in Cooking is an engaging and interactive cooking class created especially for kids, where culinary creativity meets fun! Your little bakers will learn to decorate in a creative way a variety of delicious treats. We will work with chocolate, fresh fruit, royal icing, buttercream & fondant in order to decorate cake pops, cookies, cupcakes, mini cakes, dip treats in chocolate and make fun beverages too.

Morning Basketball League
Midland School will be hosting a co-ed before school basketball league. T Each team will play 5 games to determine seeding for a single elimination tournament. Students only report to the gym when their team has a game. A schedule will be emailed home. This program will provide an opportunity for your child to practice the skills of basketball and work as a team in an environment that may be more competitive than Physical Education and less competitive than an out of–school league.
Doors will open at 8 A.M. with games beginning at 8:15. Students will play against other teams in their grade.

Participants also explore how to start their own babysitting business and communicate effectively with families.

Designed especially for beginners, students will learn 3–4 basic guitar chords and use them to play a simple, age-appropriate song by the end of the program. Explore music in a supportive, low-pressure environment without needing prior experience. Through guided instruction, repetition, and play, students will develop foundational skills such as hand coordination, rhythm, listening, and musical confidence.

Daniel Flynn is a paraprofessional at NSS and an experienced educator and musician with extensive experience working with children in school and afterschool settings. He has been playing acoustic guitar (both steel-string and nylon-string) as well as electric guitar since the age of 11, and currently plays guitar in accompaniment with the school choir.

This workshop offers an exciting blend of chocolate artistry and team-building games, led by an expert who knows exactly how to make a party pop. To help work off the sugar, we keep the energy high with a fresh "Minute to Win It" arena each week. Slime Chemistry Lab
Welcome to the weird world of slime in this chemistry-themed science class! In this exciting course, young scientists will delve into the fascinating properties of slime, discovering its stretchiness, gooey texture, and mesmerizing colors. Through hands-on experiments and playful activities, students will uncover the science behind slime, learning about polymers and the unique combination of ingredients that create this captivating substance. Get ready for a messy and memorable journey as we dive into the slime-filled wonders of chemistry and sensory exploration!
LEGO Creations
In this hands-on LEGO Creations class, students in grades K-3 will dive into a world of imagination and engineering as they transform simple bricks into incredible "Boss-level" projects. Our young builders will kick off their creative journey by constructing a functional Tick-Tock Clock and a classic Big Red Barn, exploring how gears and architecture bring ideas to life. The challenge ramps up as they design a gravity-defying Marble Maze, using logic and physics to build the ultimate obstacle course. We’ll also mix in plenty of fun with a LEGO Pizza Party where students "cook" up brick-based feasts, and a Rainbow Farm project that lets them experiment with vibrant colors and landscape design. Throughout the course, your child will develop fine motor skills and problem-solving confidence, proving that if they can dream it, they can build it!
Bloom & Brush
Young artists will spark their creativity this Spring during our vibrant journey transforming the season into a hands-on laboratory of color and design. Moving beyond the basics to become true "color chemists," students explore the science of nature’s palette by mixing custom "petal potions" for violet crocuses and misty pink cherry blossoms.
By bridging artistic expression with foundational skills, the program builds creative confidence through the joy of structured play. Tactile projects bring the garden to life as artists master symmetry through "fold and smoosh" ladybug paintings and explore sequences with watercolor-resist caterpillars. Students also discover the textures of the hive by stamping bubble wrap honeycombs and use "gravity painting" to create rhythmic rain showers over bright paper umbrellas.
From building structured garden grids to navigating winding stone paths, each lesson encourages a new discovery. Bloom & Brush offers a season of growth, pattern, and brilliant color for every budding creator.

Is your energy potential or kinetic? Find out with us as we explore centrifugal force & gyroscopes. Become a junior engineer and experiment with axles, pulleys, levers, gears and wheels. Kinderbots Robotics
In this fun robotics program for early learners, students will build simple models using LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime and learn the fundamentals of robotic design over five weeks. Whether they are exploring sensors while building drills and magic wands, or discovering how gears and pulleys create movement while constructing helicopters and robotic dogs, students are sure to have an engaging, educational, and enjoyable experience.
GOAT Games
Hit the ground running in GOAT Games, the ultimate action-packed sports class where the "Greatest of All Time" meets the greatest of all surprises! This class takes your favorite playground classics—like Kickball, Matball, Soccer, and Sharks and Minnows—and flips them on their head with unpredictable, game-changing rules. Every week brings a new challenge: you might find yourself playing Soccer with three balls at once or navigating a game of Steal the Bacon where the rules change every time the whistle blows. It’s all about fast feet, quick thinking, and a huge sense of humor. While we lean into the fun-filled chaos, we always keep our "GOAT" status by practicing awesome team spirit, cooperation, and fair play. Are you ready for an art expedition? Let the wonder and beauty of the animal kingdom inspire your empathy, curiosity, and creativity. Learn about lions, elephants, sharks and more, and find out how wildlife conservationists are working to protect species around the globe. Experiment with a variety of art techniques using Crayola® products to create animal-inspired art projects, from frog paintings to polar bear sculptures! Let your creativity run wild and bring your handiwork home to build a menagerie of animal-themed masterpieces. Our young artists will receive Crayola products to take home, and wildlife trading cards that contain fun facts about the featured animal and a biography of a real conservationist working with these animals.
Squish-mallow Friends Club
Calling all friends who love crafting, collecting, and making new buddies! At Squish-mallow Friends Club, each session is a burst of creativity and fun as students design and create their very own colorful, friendly paper Squish-mallows.
As the club continues, kids will build an adorable collection of squishy paper pals—perfect for sharing, trading, and showing off with friends! Along the way, students will practice important social and emotional skills, like taking turns, communicating kindly, and making positive connections with their peers.

Sleeping Bag, Pillow & Choc Chip Cookie!
Students create a cozy sleeping bag set designed to fit an 18-inch doll or a stuffed animal. Using soft fleece and felt, students sew a fleece sleeping bag finished with a ribbon tie, a plush fleece pillow featuring a pocket and a convenient carrying strap or handle, and a felt chocolate chip cookie! In addition to enjoying important skills, students gain patience, problem-solving skills, and pride in creating a functional, comforting set they’ll love to use again and again.

Lego Club AH
Join Mr O’Neil in the AH STEM lab to enjoy all things Lego. Students will learn Lego building techniques, participate in Lego building challenges, build houses, vehicles and much more. Each student will take home their custom builds at the end of the session.

Join Mr. O’Neil in the AH STEM Lab for 3D CAD design with Tinkercad, coding with Scratch, lego building challenges, Rube Goldberg contraption building, bridge building with K’NEX and more. Students will be able to 3D print their original designs using the 3D printers in the lab.

Morning Open Play will be available during the PTA meeting, offering children a safe and supervised space to play while adults attend the meeting. Families are encouraged to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to donate.

The Paintbrush Life
The Paintbrush Life is a paint party every week! Students will explore acrylic painting through multiple canvas painting, pour painting and mixed media projects. A variety of acrylic mediums will be introduced to create dimension effects and surfaces. Students will learn to transfer their drawings to canvas with graphite paper to create original works of art or choose from sample painting ideas! Classes will include color mixing, shading, and palette knife techniques. Weekly sharing and feedback will be given as well as looking at famous works of art. Watercolor techniques will also be introduced!

Real World Robotics
Students interested in technology will create robotic models inspired by real-life robotic technologies using LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime. They will learn about gear ratios, sensors, simple machines, and programming as they build alarm devices, earthquake detectors, robotic arms, and much more. Students will have a blast exploring the world of robotics as they build, learn, and play.
Pokémania
Students will build and explore the world of Pokémon as they create their own gyms, battles, and even their very own generation of Pokémon. Children will also learn about real-world science as they explore the habitats of different Pokémon. Students will have a blast becoming the best Pokémon trainer ever.
Paint Your Own Pottery: Story Time
In this "paint a story" class, an instructor will read a book and students will paint a pottery project based on the topic of the book! One new project per student each week, with beautiful fired pieces returned in 1-2 weeks. Class hosted by MADE: my art + design experience.
Minecraft STEM Lab: Build your 3D Worlds
Code Ninjas is excited to offer an engaging after school program where students learn coding and problem-solving through Minecraft. In this program, kids will explore game design, basic programming concepts, and creative building challenges inside the Minecraft world they love.
